I spent the first 40 years of my life in Minnesota, where I learned to tough it out through cold winters and some serious life challenges. I've been through a lot—surviving cancer twice, dealing with a divorce, going through bankruptcy, and losing my home. But the biggest shock came in 2017 when I lost my mom to suicide. It shook me to my core, and I realized I was done with what Minnesota had to offer. So, I packed up and moved to sunny Florida, hoping for a fresh start.
A few months after I settled in, my 20-year-old son, Quintin, asked if he could join me. He’d been struggling with drug addiction, but his desire to start fresh and live a healthy life in Florida was music to my ears. Sadly, that wasn’t his story to have. His friends and family in Minnesota threw him a “goodbye” party, a final celebration before his new life began. But that night, he overdosed, and on July 8th, 2018, we lost him.
Since then, I’ve gone through a supernatural healing process, and I’ve learned so much about myself and what it means to keep going, even when it feels impossible. Would I give anything to have my mom and Quintin back? Absolutely. But I’ve come to understand that their passing brought me gifts of strength, clarity, and growth. Now, I’m dedicated to helping others who are facing their own grief or battling addiction and trauma to keep moving forward and find the good in life again.
One of the things that’s helped me the most in healing is improv. It’s something I started doing as a hobby, but it’s become a huge part of my journey. Improv taught me how to be present, to embrace uncertainty, and to find joy in the messiness of life—lessons that I now share with others. I use improv as a tool to teach people how to recover, live more fully, and lead with authenticity. It’s helped me get out of my head and into my heart, and I’m passionate about showing others how they can do the same.
Since moving to Florida, I’ve embraced each day as a new opportunity to grow and heal. Life is unpredictable, and I’m learning to make the most of every moment—finding joy, strength, and purpose along the way. My focus is on embracing the gifts that come with each new season of life and helping others do the same.
